Good work health and safety practice within the organisation ensures that workers and the general public are safe.

Employers have a responsibilty to ensure that workers not only have the training and resources needed to work safely but also the understanding of potential risks and the ability to act on those risks when identified.

This one-day course is designed to be the first in a series called “Safety First.”

This course will provide a solid understanding of workplace safety standards and practices, including the Work Health and Safety legislation.

 

Workshop Outcomes

  • Highlight the importance of a safe and healthy workplace
  • Explain the intent and application of Australian WHS legislation
  • Describe the accountabilities, responsibilities and liabilities of management with respect to ensuring safe and healthy work environment
  • Identify the different types of WHS issues in the workplace
  • Understand how to identify existing and potential risks

    The importance of health and safety at the workplace and the intent and application of Australian WHS legislation.
    Regardless of industry, the possibility of accidents are always present. Some fields of work present more potential than others but the bottom line is that there need to be distinct protocols in place for workplace health and safety.

    The accountabilities, responsibilities and liabilities of management with respect to ensuring safe and healthy work environment
    Duties for WHS are legislated in the Work Health and Safety Act (WHS) 2011. The Act details the duties of a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU), officers and workers as well as suppliers and manufacturers.
  • 1:30 PM — 3:00 PM
    Classroom 7
    The different types of WHS issues in the workplace
    Health and safety is not only restricted to physical risks, but also includes the occurrence of events that may effect a worker's psychological and mental well-being.
  • 3:30 PM — 5:00 PM
    Classroom 7
    How to identify existing and potential risks
    A very important initial stem in the management of WHS, is identifying risks. In this session Omar Aboulahaf will discuss the different methods and techniques commonly used in a workplace to identify risks.
