The Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) is a validated set of benchmarks that provides a consistent national approach for identifying, describing, discussing and reporting performance in core language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills, across a range of personal, community, training or workplace contexts. In this workshop you will build and develop knowledge of the ACSF and how it informs curriculum, individual learning plans and assessment in adult LLN.

- Understanding key features of ACSF
- Understanding the 5 levels of performance
- Understanding the 4 performance variables
- Understanding the 3 domains of communication
- How to escribe performance
- Applying the ACSF.

9:00 AM — 10:30 AMClassroom 2Introduction and Background InformationThe ACSF can be used to map the core skills requirements of any education and training course or unit in order to clarify and articulate core skills expectations, priorities and gaps.

10:45 AM — 12:30 PMClassroom 2What is the ACSF?The levels of performance are described using: Indicators: Statements that provide an overview of exit performance at each level Focus Areas: The strands within each Indicator against which Performance Features are organised Performance Features, which are detailed descriptors of what an individual is able to do at each level Sample Activities, Specific examples of what a person may be able to do at a particular level of performance within each of the Domains of Communication.

1:30 PM — 3:00 PMClassroom 2Applying the ACSFAn individual may be operating across different levels within a core skill, demonstrating some Performance Features across two or more levels, or performing more strongly in one Domain of Communication than in another. It is also likely that an individual will not perform at the same ACSF level across all five core skills. This can be captured visually in what is called a 'spiky profile’.
